Greased Lightning Super Strength

Greased Lightning LogoHi there, I’m Angela Brown and this is Ask a House Cleaner. This is the show where you get to ask a house cleaning question and I get to help you find an answer.

Now, professional house cleaners have been using Greased Lightning for years. And they swear by it because of the cleaning power.

Greased Lightning is a product that’s been around since 1985. And it’s manufactured by a company called Home Care Labs in Lawrenceville, GA, USA.

Now, this is their flagship product. It’s been around, like I say, for 34 years. And now they have a line of de-greaser products for things like car wheels.

Greased Lightning Cleaner and Degreaser

Greased Lightning LogoAll right, now when you think of grease, what do you think of?

Well, you think of outdoor tools, like lawn mowers and tillers and hedgers and things like that. Gas spews out or leaks and gunk build on the engines.

If you want to clean those tools, Greased Lightning is an amazing product for that.

It’s also great for outdoor patios.

Greased Lightning for Outdoor Patio Grills & Furniture

Greased Lightning Cleaner and Degreaser - Barbecue Grill with HamburgersEver have a cookout and grease from the grill gets everywhere on the grill? Greased Lightning does an amazing job of removing that.

It’s great for barbecue pits, grills, patio furniture, it does wonders.

All right now, if you come inside the house, you’ll find an amazing array of uses inside.

So, in your kitchen, for example, let’s say that you’re cooking bacon and it splatters out on your backsplash. Greased Lightning will take that off the sealed glazed tile and stone.

Greased Lightning Cleans Stoves, Ranges, Hoods, and Ovens

Greased Lightning Cleaner and Degreaser - Cleaning OvenIt’s great for the top of your stove, it’s great for cleaning out the inside of your oven, it’s great for cleaning down the backsplash.

Not the cupboards, okay, this is not designed for wood. But the glazed surfaces for the stove and the oven and stuff like that, are okay.

Safety Data Sheets for Greased Lightning

Safety Data SheetAll right, let’s take a look at the safety data sheet and see a little bit about what it is, what it’s made of and how to protect ourselves when we use it.

SDS Hazards Warning Savvy Cleaner SpacerHazards

All right, we talked a little bit about the company that it came from, but what are the hazards?

All right, the hazards are eyes, breathing through our nose, our skin and then also ingesting it. So, we want to be careful of those four things.

What’s inside? Well, the main ingredient is 2-butoxyethanol, which is from the glycol ether family. Now, that is a relatively non-volatile, inexpensive solvent of low toxicity.

And it’s used in many domestic and industrial products because of its properties as a surfactant.

And then it’s also partnered with a trade secret. We don’t know what the trade secret is, but what we do know is that it’s a Ph of 12.5 to 13. It’s on the high end of the alkalinity scale. Which puts it in the family of bleaches and ammonia.

SDS First Aid Savvy Cleaner SpacerGreased Lightning First Aid Measures

So, we want to treat this with ultimate chemical respect. Okay, now if for any reason there need to be first aid measures, what do you do?

If you get it inside your eyes, you want to rinse with water.

Wash your skin with water if you’re irritated.

Move to clean air if you inhale it and breathing bothers you.

And if for any reason you should ingest it, drink one to two glasses of water to dilute it. Then call the number on the backside of the bottle, and that for Poison Control.

SDS Fire Safety Savvy Cleaner SpacerFire Hazards

There are no known explosive fire hazards connected with this product. But if for any reason your bathroom should catch on fire any household fire extinguisher should do the trick.

SDS Accidental Release Spills Savvy Cleaner SpacerAccidental Release and Spills

Accidental spills, what happens if you spill it?  Well, for a jug this size, you would flush it with water and then wipe it up.

SDS Storage Savvy Cleaner SpacerHandling & Storage

Keep Greased Lightning in its original container. This container is made of a special plastic that’s a little bit heavier than a regular plastic jug. And because this is a strong chemical, we want to keep it inside this jug.

When the jug is empty, you can rinse it out before tossing it in the disposal for recycling.

SDS Exposure Personal Protection Savvy Cleaner SpacerExposure Controls

How do we protect ourselves when using the product?

Open the doors and windows for ventilation. Turn on an overhead fan.

We also want to use our personal protective equipment, which is, in this case, going to be a face mask.

And then we want to use our protective eye equipment to protect us from having any splashes that reach our face. And then also for our skin, we want to use our disposable gloves.

SDS Physical - Chemical Properties Savvy Cleaner SpacerPhysical and Chemical Properties

SDS Toxicity Sickness Savvy Cleaner SpacerToxicological Information

Work Smart Not Hard Tools

Greased Lightning Cleaner and Degreaser - Work Smart Not Hard ToolsTo clean a shower, we have a few go-to work smart, not hard tools.

  1. We have a roll of paper towels
  2. 1 regular hand-held scrub brush.
  3. 2 OXO Deep Cleaning Brushes
  4. 1 bottle of Greased Lightning Super Strength

These are the tools that we’re going to use today to clean the muckety-muck off the bottom of the shower floor.

Greased Lightning Job Assessment

Greased Lightning Cleaner and Degreaser - Icky Shower GroutMoving to the shower, what we’re looking at are the ridges and the edges around the fiberglass floor pan. This has mold that’s starting to build up in the corners and crevices of the grout. Now it’s not nasty, I’ve seen so much worse, but this is a great opportunity to see how this works.

So, we’ve got a little bit of mold in the corners and we’ve got some black, icky stuff in all the corners around where the floor pan meets the grout. And then the floor pan itself has black, icky stuff on it. And we’re going to be able to scrub that out with the Greased Lightning.

Pay attention around the edges of the doors where seals meet.

PPE: Personal Protective Equipment

Greased Lightning Cleaner and Degreaser - Icky Shower GroutNext steps are to don a face mask and disposable gloves for personal protective equipment.

Ventilation:

Greased Lightning Cleaner and Degreaser - Needs VentilationAfter that let’s open some windows in the open room next door. And we’ll turn on the ceiling fan for ventilation.

Safety Caps /Seals:

Greased Lightning Cleaner and Degreaser - Safety CapAnother safety precaution Greased Lightning has provided us with is a safety screw cap on the top of the nozzle. This allows us to turn it from off to spray before using it.

Floor Mats:

Greased Lightning Cleaner and Degreaser - remove bathmat firstThen to protect our flooring we’re going to remove the floor mat that’s in the bathroom next to the shower. This way if we spill anything or it leaks off of the glass, it won’t leak onto the floor mat and we won’t have to replace that for the customer.

Spray Greased Lightning & Let Dwell

Greased Lightning Cleaner and Degreaser - Spraying shower downAll right, now we’re going to spray the Greased Lightning in all the corners and on everything that looks like mold or mildew.

Let’s spray all the edges where the tile meets the floor pan. And let’s not forget the seals around the doors and walls.

Then we’ll spray the floor itself and let the Greased Lightning do its magic.

During our minute or two waits, we’ll use our OXO Deep Clean Brushes and scrub the door seals and track. And with the brushes still in our hands, we’ll go over the grout lines that had mold and mildew.

You can see it coming right off. The Greased Lightning has loosened the gunk.

Scrub the Shower & Rinse

Greased Lightning Cleaner and Degreaser - Scrubbing Shower FloorUsing a handheld scrub brush, we scrub the floor pan where we sprayed the Greased Lightning. Watch as the spots disappear.

We still have to use some elbow grease and on a scale of one to 10 with 10 being the hardest, we’re scrubbing at a four or five.

After we’ve scrubbed everything down, we’ll rinse the entire shower with the handheld shower head on a hose.

Oh, and move carefully so you don’t get soaked.

Once rinsed, we’ll wipe the shower down with a careful emphasis around the corners of the glass where a squeegee doesn’t quite get the water.

Inspect Your Work

Greased Lightning Cleaner and Degreaser - After cleaning showerOnce you have finished your work, inspect it and make corrections if necessary.

As we look at this shower it looks spectacular. You can’t tell there was ever any mold or mildew in there.

Greased Lightning Super Strength is Savvy Cleaner Approved

Greased Lightning Cleaner and Degreaser - After cleaning showerGreased Lightning is a degreaser. We saw its power in the oven we cleaned.

It removes mold and mildew. We saw that in the shower we cleaned.

The safety precautions for use are printed on the label of every container in easy-to-understand verbiage.

We’re proud to announce that Greased Lightning is Savvy Cleaner Approved.

Have you used to try Greased Lightning yet?  I want to know and I want to know what your best uses for it are.

Let’s start a conversation in the notes below, and if you found this tip helpful please pass it on to a friend. Who knows, maybe you’ll help someone else. And until we meet again, leave the world a cleaner place than when you found it.
